BUILD THE NEST
We are all part of
building the nest.
Know Your Role.
Protect your community.
If you work at a business, health center, social services or licensing agency, police department, school, or place of worship, you are part of building the Ohio community. This is our home.
You have a core mission and want to do it to the best of your ability. Trying to enforce immigration laws will divert you from your primary purpose, harm local families, and expose your organization to liability.
If someone in your office needs an interpreter, do not contact ICE or the Border Patrol. Their job is to arrest people, not provide translation.
Every person in Ohio has rights, including immigrants with various citizenship statuses and you, in your place of business. It’s impossible to determine someone’s immigration status by looking at them or hearing them talk. Making an assumption is racial profiling.
The resources in this section provide specific guidance for service providers and other community-facing institutions. You can also download quick summaries from the Solidarity Organizing Initiative here. They cover individual and collective rights at home, work, school, houses of worship, and in the community.
